About Jason

Growing up in the suburbs of New York (on the Jersey side) photography became an escape for me during my teen years. I was fascinated with the way light could be captured and the way it was translated onto a piece of film. I attended the New School for Social Research where I studied Creative Writing and also took photography classes a the Parson's School of Design. Later I moved to Montana where I continued to study photography at University of Montana.

In my early adulthood I had a career in Human Services. During this time I managed a group home for disabled adults, served as a shift supervisor at a county homeless shelter and worked as a Dorm Parent for the Texas School for the Deaf. In the late 1990's I came to realization that Photography, which had always been my favorite avocation, was really where I wanted to focus my life's work.

Since 1998 I have worked as a free-lance Photographer out of Portland Oregon for local, national and international clients. During the past 11 years I have leaned as much as I could about my craft, both from a technical and artistic standpoints.

The camera has been my passport to experience. It has allowed me to meet people, go places and understand things I would never have been exposed to otherwise.

I believe my greatest skill is to be able to get the shot without getting in the way. I love to work in a documentary style, keeping a low-profile and always repecting my subjects and their stories. My greatest influences are Henri Cartier-Bresson, Weegee, Margaret Burke White and David Burnett. In the end it is my curiosity that guides me.
